California Online Poker Bill Sidelined

California State Senator Roderick Wright has opted to postpone a vote on his online poker bill, stating that it needs "additional work".

This is, of course, after the bill met with fairly strong opposition from the California Indian Tribes that currently have a monopoly on offering gaming services (including poker) in California.

Wright's bill would have offered out-of-state and offshore companies the opportunity to seek licensing to offer online poker to Californians.

It seems likely that the bill will be re-worked in order to satisfy the current special interest groups in California, prior to being re-presented to the legislative committee for vote. In doing so, however, California has given up the edge that it gained over New Jersey to become the first U.S.A. State to legalize online poker, when New Jersey put its online poker legislation on the back burner in a similar move not too long ago.

So who will be next? Florida? Will the legislation in New Jersey or in California be re-worked and be brought back to the table before another State gets a jump?

Right now it's anyone's guess and anybody's game.
