California State Senator Roderick Wright, a name familiar to those that are keeping up with efforts to create online poker legislation in California, is at it again.

Senator Wright sponsored online poker legislation earlier this year, but agreed to postpone a vote in the legislature due to vocal resistance by special interest groups, conceeding that the bill as written needed additional work.

Part of the rationale behind the poker legislation was its potential to increase tax revenues in California.

Now Senator Wright has realized that legalizing Sports Betting in California could also generate similar revenues.

According to existing federal laws, there are only a few states that can offer wagering on sports legally, but New Jersey has filed a lawsuit stating that such prohibitions are unconstitutional -- if one state can offer sports betting services, then New Jersey should be allowed to do so as well. Senator Wright has voiced support for New Jersey's efforts, and is considering pushing the California state legislature to join in the lawsuit as well.
